I understand your fear, I've seen people use the "well, it's man made so we can do what we like with it" argument... The Moorlands in the Uk are man-made, people argue that without us [and the sheep that graze there] there wouldn't be a moorland in the first place.. and by some twist of logic, that means it's ok to dig up the peat bogs or drain them and turn them into [piss poor] arable land.
People mistake managing lands for mismanging them.
And it really hacks me off when the media misreports what scientists say...
